Short Description: The title Gimgamesh comes from the Svan word for “world” – representing the earthly, physical, and visible world. Since 2015, Anna has immersed herself in the rich culture of Svaneti, a mountainous region in Georgia, capturing not only its breathtaking landscapes but also its deep-rooted traditions. This book is a visual journey through Svaneti’s spiritual life, centered around the ancient tradition of Lamproba – a ritual that symbolizes the connection between our visible world and the supernatural realm where the soul finds immortality.

Through her lens, Anna shares powerful images of this unique ceremony, bringing the mysticism of Svaneti to life. The book also reflects her personal journey of learning the Svan language and embracing the region’s heritage. Each photograph is a window into Svaneti’s ancient culture, connecting the past and present, the seen and the unseen.

 

Artist Bio: Anna Kacheishvili is a photographer living and working in Georgia. She has been interested in photography for many years although she started actively working in this field in 2016, which was already enough for her works to go beyond the borders. For Anna, photography is an impulse. Her experimental searches, radically different photo projects show the diversity of her spiritual world.
